A Beacon of Hope and Learning: Driving Park Community Unveils
Inspirational Reading Cove Park
Columbus, OH – [June 13, 2024] – The Driving Park neighborhood is set to shine brighter with the grand opening of “Livingston Reads: “Our Storybook Park”, a transformative 0.16-acre sanctuary designed to uplift the community by fostering safety, learning, and mental well-being. This remarkable project is the culmination of a threemonth collaboration between The MKSK Community Impact Studio and the Creators, Originators, and Innovators of Tomorrow Initiative (COITWI) interns at the Rickenbacker Woods Foundation.
Inspired by the insightful vision of local teens, Our Storybook Park addresses the urgent need for a safe and inviting space where young people can immerse themselves in the joy of reading and relaxation. This park is not just a beautiful addition to the neighborhood— it is a proactive measure to reduce youth violence and promote mental health, while also enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the community.
“The teens’ vision for this project was clear—they needed a safe haven for young people to read and gather,” said Doreen Uhas Sauer, a retired Columbus City School educator and board member at Rickenbacker Woods. “Their dedication and creativity have brought this vision to life, creating a vibrant and welcoming park that stands as a testament to the power of community collaboration and innovation.”
Join Us for the Grand Opening: The dedication and grand opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 20th at 4:30 PM. We invite community members to celebrate this momentous occasion and experience the park alongside the COITWI interns, The Rickenbacker Woods Foundation, MKSK, community leaders, and many more.
